Isaiah Buggs released by Chiefs – NBC Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have decided to release defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs following a series of off-field incidents this year. Buggs was charged with second-degree domestic violence and second-degree burglary after an altercation with the mother of his child, as well as facing an animal cruelty case.

Buggs, a 2019 sixth-round draft pick of the Steelers, has also had stints with the Raiders and Lions before joining the Chiefs. Despite signing a reserve/futures contract with Kansas City after last season, he will now become a free agent due to his release.

Given the seriousness of the charges against Buggs, it is unlikely that any team will sign him soon, with a potential NFL suspension or placement on the commissioner’s exempt list looming. The decision to cut Buggs shows the Chiefs taking a firmer stance than they have with wide receiver Rashee Rice, who remains on the team despite his own off-field issues this offseason.
