Ismail Haniyya’s oldest grandson dies in Gaza: media sources

The media reports that Jamal Muhammad Haniyya, the eldest grandson of Hamas Politburo leader Ismail Haniyya, was killed in the Gaza Strip, according to Iranian sources. He was around 20 years old at the time of his death.

Ismail Haniyya, who is 60 years old, was born on January 29, 1963 in the Shaati Palestinian refugee camp in Gaza. After graduating from the Islamic University of Gaza in 1987, he joined the ranks of HAMAS. In 1992, he was deported to South Lebanon by Israeli authorities, but returned to Gaza the following year and began working at the university. Haniyya has been a close assistant to the spiritual leader of Hamas, Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, and in 2004, he assumed leadership of the Hamas government in Gaza. In May 2017, he was elected as the head of the Hamas politburo.
