Israeli Bombings on Gaza Exceeds World War II Levels

Israel has dropped more than 70,000 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip since last October, which is a higher number than the bombs dropped on Dresden, Hamburg, and London combined during World War II. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor estimated that approximately 70,000 tons of bombs were dropped on Gaza between Oct. 7 and April 24. This has resulted in the destruction of buildings up to one kilometer away from the east and north of the Strip in order to establish a buffer zone.

During World War II, the Germans dropped around 18,300 tons of bombs on London between 1940 and 1941. The Allies dropped 8,500 tons on Hamburg in the summer of 1943 and 3,900 tons on Dresden in February 1945. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has continued its offensive on Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 36,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, with nearly 83,000 others injured.

After nearly eight months of war, Gaza is in ruins and facing a blockade of essential resources like food, water, and medicine. Israel has been accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice, with recent orders to halt operations in Rafah where over a million Palestinians were seeking refuge until the area was invaded on May 6.
