Jackson Walker: Emily Carlton Leads Panel Discussion at Dallas Bar Association Business Litigation Section CLE Program

On Tuesday, May 14, Emily Carlton, an attorney at Jackson Walker, will be moderating a panel discussion hosted by the Dallas Bar Association’s Business Litigation Section. The panel, titled “What to Do When Your Client is in the News: Perspectives from the Defamation Bar,” will feature Professor Tom Leatherbury from SMU Dedman School of Law and David Sillers from Clare Locke LLP. This CLE program will be held both in-person at the Arts District Mansion on 2101 Ross Avenue, as well as via Zoom. Emily Carlton is an associate attorney based in Dallas and specializes in commercial and business litigation, with a particular emphasis on media and First Amendment litigation. She represents journalists, news outlets, entertainment companies, and other media organizations in a variety of legal matters. Emily handles disputes over content, including defamation, privacy, newsgathering, and copyright issues. She has also written numerous amicus briefs in media and First Amendment cases on behalf of media coalitions, trade groups, and public interest organizations.

In addition to her work in media law, Emily represents both public and privately-held companies in state and federal court in a range of non-media related disputes. These matters include breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, fraud, and other complex commercial litigation cases. Emily has significant experience in all aspects of litigation, from preparing and arguing motions to discovery and trial strategy.
