The final stop of the Diamond League regular season took place at the King Baudouin Stadium. This event was the last opportunity for track and field athletes to qualify for the upcoming Diamond League Finals in Eugene, Oregon.
Elaine Thompson-Herah, a five-time Olympic gold medallist, had a difficult season but managed to claim her first Diamond League win. She finished strongly in the 100m race, achieving a season’s best time of 10.84. Her fellow Jamaican, Natasha Morrison, came in second with a time of 10.95, while Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain finished third with a time of 10.97.
Femke Bol, the world 400m hurdles champion, returned to action after her successful performance in Budapest. Despite stumbling at a few hurdles, Bol comfortably won her race. She achieved a time of 52.11, although she seemed a bit disappointed with her performance. Bol finished well ahead of Jamaican athletes Janieve Russell and Rushell Clayton.
In the men’s 200m race, Kenny Bednarek gave an exceptional performance. He ran the bend excellently and managed to hold off Zharnel Hughes to secure the victory with a season’s best time of 19.79. Hughes came in second with a time of 19.82, while Andre De Grasse, the Olympic champion, finished third with a season’s best time of 19.89.
Shanieka Ricketts made an impressive breakthrough in the triple jump. The Jamaican athlete achieved a distance of 15.01m during the third round of the competition, marking her first time breaking the 15m barrier. This outstanding performance resulted in her claiming victory.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the high jump world champion from Ukraine, continued her superb season with another win. She cleared the bar at 2.00m on her first attempt, securing first place. Angelina Topic from Serbia also performed exceptionally well, equaling the national record with a clearance of 1.97m to finish in second place.
