One of the most intriguing changes for the upcoming NFL season is the adjustment to the traditional kickoff rules. In this new format, both teams will start near one end zone and kickoff from there similar to the XFL. Seahawks special teams coordinator Jay Harbaugh recently shared his thoughts on the new kickoff rules after a practice session.

During a media session, Jay Harbaugh fielded questions about the new kickoff rules, mentioning that there is more uncertainty about how return units will respond compared to kickoff units. He anticipates that there will be an increase in squib kicks as a result of the changes. The Seahawks will showcase these new kickoffs for the first time in their preseason game on August 10.

Coincidentally, their first preseason game will be against the Chargers, coached by Jay’s father Jim Harbaugh. Known for his unconventional tactics, Jim Harbaugh may attempt a unique trick play in the game against his son. Seahawks fans can look forward to seeing how these new kickoff rules play out in the upcoming games.
