The Boston Celtics ownership group announced their plans to sell all of their shares of the team, which came as a surprise to many, including Celtics star Jayson Tatum. Tatum expressed his shock at learning of Wyc Grousbeck’s intentions to sell his stake in the team during his JT Elite camp in Las Vegas. He stated that he hopes the foundation and structure of the team remain the same as it is a great thing that they have built together.

Tatum’s reaction to the news is understandable, given that the Celtics had just come off a successful season where they won their 18th NBA championship. The idea of a sale was not something that was on anyone’s radar prior to the announcement. Tatum, who recently signed a $314 million supermax extension with the team, will be watching closely to see how any potential changes might affect the organization.

If Tatum has his way, Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca will remain a part of the ownership group moving forward. Pagliuca expressed his desire to continue being involved with the team and plans to participate in the bidding process for the sale. The sale is expected to begin later this year or early 2025, with Grousbeck stepping down as governor when the sale is finalized in 2028. Tatum and the Celtics will be navigating this new chapter in the team’s history while striving to maintain their success on the court.
