A joint planning team consisting of the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transport has recently put out a tender for a feasibility study and preliminary design of three metro lines in the Israeli capital. It is projected that by 2030, Jerusalem will need to have 8 tram lines in operation to accommodate the growing population.

The experts involved believe that the current rate of population growth in Jerusalem will necessitate more transportation infrastructure than previously planned. In order to keep up with demand, it has been determined that the city will need to expand its metro system by constructing new lines.

The terms of the tender specify that the design work for the new metro lines should be completed by the end of 2026. While this is an ambitious timeline, the goal is to have construction of the metro lines begin by 2040. This timeline allows for the necessary planning and design work to be completed before groundbreaking starts.

The publication of this tender marks a significant step towards the future expansion and improvement of Jerusalem’s public transportation system. With the expected population growth in the coming years, the addition of new metro lines will be crucial in ensuring efficient and reliable transportation for residents and visitors alike.
