Israeli media reported that Jerusalem has expressed opposition to the new version of the resolution on the Gaza Strip, which is being promoted by the United States in the UN Security Council. This opposition is primarily due to two problematic points within the resolution. It was reported that Israel’s permanent representative, Gilad Erdan, conveyed Jerusalem’s position to the US representative at the UN.

On Monday, June 3, the United States presented an amended draft resolution to the UN Security Council in support of US President Joe Biden’s ceasefire proposal. Unlike the previous version, the new draft calls on both sides of the conflict to “fully, without delay and without conditions” implement the proposals for the deal. In the previous version, this call was addressed only to Hamas. However, one of the problematic points for Israel is that the new version excludes the creation of a buffer zone in the Gaza Strip.

According to the news service of the Israeli television channel Keshet, Jerusalem disagrees with this resolution because it contradicts the offer that Israel had made to Hamas. Israel had proposed a complete stop to hostilities in the Gaza Strip in exchange for the release of hostages. US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield mentioned that the draft resolution had been shared among the 14 Security Council members in hopes of gaining their support. She urged the Security Council to join the many leaders and governments, including those in the region, who have endorsed the plan.
