The New York Jets are currently searching for a quarterback as a result of Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles tendon injury. In their pursuit, the Jets have reportedly shown interest in acquiring a quarterback from another team’s practice squad. Specifically, the team has expressed interest in Brett Rypien, who was recently promoted to the active roster of the Los Angeles Rams. However, Rypien is expected to be elevated from the practice squad due to rookie quarterback Stetson Bennett being placed on reserve/NFI list. It is worth noting that the Rams were aware of the Jets’ interest in Rypien, as he had previously played for the Denver Broncos under the guidance of the Jets’ current offensive coordinator, Nathaniel Hackett. Rypien, the nephew of Super Bowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, has played in a total of eight games over the past three years, completing 61.5 percent of his passes for 778 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He has also started three games and won two of them. Despite stating that Zach Wilson will remain their starting quarterback, the Jets are expected to add another player to the position. The team is actively exploring practice squads across the league, potentially finding another enticing option such as P.J. Walker from the Cleveland Browns’ roster.
