Joey Logano claims pole position for Sonoma Cup starting lineup

Joey Logano claimed his second career pole at Sonoma Raceway, setting a blistering pace on the freshly repaved road course. His previous pole at Sonoma came in 2011, and he will start at the front of the pack for Sunday’s race with a lap of 97.771 mph. This marks Logano’s third career pole on a road course. Tyler Reddick will join him on the front row after posting a lap of 97.661 mph.

Ryan Blaney, who narrowly missed victory last weekend due to running out of fuel, qualified third with a lap of 97.566 mph. Chase Elliott (97.562 mph) will start fourth, while Kyle Larson (97.542) rounds out the top five despite hitting the tire barrier in Turn 4 during the final qualifying round. Elliott has consistently started in the top 10 in the last seven Sonoma races, while Larson has started in the top five in nine out of 10 Sonoma races.

All four Hendrick Motorsports cars made it to the final round of qualifying, bouncing back after failing to put a car in the final round last week for the first time this season. William Byron (97.518) will start sixth, and Alex Bowman (97.420) will start eighth for Hendrick Motorsports. Defending race winner Martin Truex Jr. will start 21st after a lap of 96.804 mph.

Two Australian Supercars drivers are making their Cup debut at Sonoma. Will Brown (96.752) will start 24th for Richard Childress Racing, while Cam Waters (96.334) will start 31st for RFK Racing. The Cup race is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m. ET on Sunday. The last eight Cup races have been won by different drivers, setting the stage for an unpredictable and exciting race at Sonoma Raceway.
