Jon Rahm’s participation in the LIV Golf Houston event was cut short on Saturday, prompting concerns about his availability for the upcoming U.S. Open. During the first round on Friday, Rahm appeared to be in pain and limping after a swing. Reports from the broadcast indicated that Rahm was dealing with a cut between two of his toes, but he continued to play and finished the round with a 3-under-par 69.

Unfortunately, the cut on Rahm’s foot became infected, leading to his withdrawal from the LIV Golf Houston event midway through the second round on Saturday. Despite playing six holes, he ultimately had to bow out, remaining at 3-under. Louis Oosthuizen also withdrew from the event due to a lower back injury.

Rahm, a 29-year-old golfer who has won both the 2023 Masters and the 2021 U.S. Open, is currently ranked seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking. Although he did not perform well at this year’s Masters or the PGA Championship, the LIV Golf Houston event was seen as a crucial warm-up for the upcoming U.S. Open, where he is considered one of the top-10 betting favorites.

Since joining the LIV Golf league last December, Rahm has consistently finished inside the top 10 in the seven events he has participated in, with two third-place finishes. Despite not yet securing a victory in a LIV Golf event, he currently sits in second place in the individual points standings and captains his own team, Legion XIII, on the tour. Rahm is among the 12 LIV Golf players set to compete in the U.S. Open at Pinehurst in North Carolina, the third major of the year.
