Apple’s former design chief, Jony Ive, recently spoke about the device that made a deep impression on him. In a podcast episode of “Life in Seven Songs,” Ive mentioned the Apple Watch as the product that he is most proud of. He explained that the Apple Watch represents an evolution in our intimacy with technology, and how it has become one of the most personal products in Apple’s line-up.
Ive’s fascination with the Apple Watch stems from the fact that it was a product he started working on after the passing of Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs. Three years after Jobs’ death, Apple unveiled its first wearable device, the Apple Watch, which has since seen nine generations of development. Ive described the watch as a truly personal and intimate product, noting the different kind of relationship people have with things they wear.
He emphasized the significance of wearables and explained how Apple products have evolved from sitting on desks to being carried in bags, then carried in pockets, and finally worn on the wrist. The transition to a wearable device like the Apple Watch has opened up new possibilities and challenges in the tech industry.
Since leaving Apple in 2019, Ive has started his own design firm, LoveFrom. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch continues to be a major seller for Apple, contributing to the success of the company’s wearables division. As wearable technology continues to grow in popularity, the Apple Watch remains a flagship product that reflects our changing relationship with tech.
