Get ready Jordan Stolz fans, because you now have exciting plans for the winter! The International Skating Union (ISU) recently announced via social media that Milwaukee’s Pettit National Ice Center has been selected to host the Long Track Speed Skating World Cup from January 31 to February 2, 2025. This event will mark the fourth stop of the World Cup season series.
“It has been nearly 20 years since the last World Cup was held in Milwaukee. We’re thrilled for the chance to host the world’s top speedskaters just one year before the 2026 Winter Olympics,” said Paul Golomski, Pettit National Ice Center General Manager.
Stolz’s coach, Bob Corby, emphasized the importance of this event for both Stolz and the community. It will offer an opportunity for Stolz to compete at his home rink in front of hometown supporters while giving the public, especially those in Milwaukee, a chance to witness the world’s best skaters who will be competing at the upcoming Olympic Games.
Top speed skaters from around the globe will take part in various races, including the 500 meters, 1,000 meters, and 1,500 meters for both men and women, as well as the 3,000 meters for women and 5,000 meters for men. Other events scheduled for the World Cup include a mass start race, the team pursuit, and the team sprint.
Ted Morris, US Speedskating Executive Director, highlighted Wisconsin’s rich speed skating legacy, with 34 Olympic medals won by athletes from the state. He also noted the success of Wisconsin’s own Jordan Stolz, making it a fitting time to bring a Speed Skating World Cup back to Milwaukee.
The Pettit National Ice Center, where Stolz trains, first opened in 1992. The venue has hosted major events like the U.S. Olympic Speed Skating Trials in 2018 and 2022, although the pandemic limited access to fans, spectators, and media in 2022. This upcoming World Cup will provide a unique chance for fans to see Stolz, the accomplished 20-year-old speed skater who holds the World Record in the 1,000 meters and is a six-time World Champion.
