Apr 4, 2024

Juan Vicente Perez Mora, a Venezuelan man who was named the oldest man in the world by Guinness World Records, passed away just weeks before his 115th birthday. Guinness awarded him this distinction on February 4, 2022, when he was 112 years and 253 days old, following the death of Saturnino de le Fuento Garcia. Mr. Mora credited his longevity to a simple lifestyle, including hard work, rest, early bedtimes, a daily glass of aguardiente, and his strong faith in God.

Governor Freddy Bernal expressed his deep sadness at the passing of Juan Vicente Perez Mora, describing him as a humble, hardworking man who cherished his family and traditions. Mr. Mora was a father of 11, with 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He began working in agriculture at the age of five, and later became a sheriff known for resolving disputes in his community.

Having witnessed significant historical events such as both World Wars, the invention of television, and the moon landing, Juan Vicente Perez Mora also survived COVID-19 in 2020. President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela paid tribute to him on social media, offering his condolences to Mr. Perez’s family and the people of El Cobre, Tachira state. May God receive him in his eternal glory.
