Julie Bloodworth of Leidos discusses the transformation of defence technology

Julie’s career began before the age of computers, so working with software was a significant learning experience for her. At the age of 40, she made the decision to pursue a degree in computer science, a challenge she never thought she would tackle. Out of 30 students, Julie was one of only three who completed the entire course successfully.

After leaving the military in 2001, Julie joined STASYS, which was later acquired by Leidos. Starting as a tactical data links chief engineer, she has progressed to become a solutions architect. In this role, she is responsible for designing and delivering complex defense solutions, taking into account technical, project management, financial, and human elements.

Julie’s wealth of experience spanning decades in various roles has been invaluable in her current position as a solutions architect. She credits her ability to navigate different areas and know who to approach for more in-depth knowledge to her broad understanding of different subjects.

Despite nearing the age of 64, Julie still finds joy and fulfillment in her work. She thrives on the challenges and opportunities for continuous learning that her job presents. The excitement of starting a new project from scratch and turning it into a successful solution keeps her mentally engaged and motivated to continue working for as long as she enjoys it and is capable.
