Key storylines to watch for at the upcoming U.S. Open

As the U.S. Open approaches, golf fans have their eyes on the world’s best golfers taking on the tough challenge in North Carolina. One player to watch is Scottie Scheffler, the current world number one, who has been on an impressive winning streak. With a recent win at the memorial and several other top finishes, Scheffler is in top form and is the betting favorite heading into the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.

Another major story to follow is the course itself, Pinehurst Number Two. Unlike traditional U.S. Open courses with narrow fairways and thick rough, Pinehurst offers a unique challenge with sand and wiregrass rough that will cause havoc on players’ scores. The USGA’s goal is to make players use every club in their bag, and with dome-shaped greens that can cause approach shots to roll off into difficult terrain, the challenge is set for a thrilling week of competition.

While Scheffler is the favorite, other players like Rory McIlroy, Viktor Hovland, and Jon Rahm are expected to give him tough competition. The U.S. Open at Pinehurst promises to be an exciting event, where spectators can expect thrilling play and unforeseen challenges. Stay tuned for all the action at Yahoo Sports as we cover the tournament at Pinehurst.
