The Katz Jewish Community Center hosted their 12th Annual Sports Awards ceremony, which was a big hit among Phillies fans. The event honored four community members for their contributions to the JCC fitness and wellness programs. Even the Phillie Phanatic made an appearance at the ceremony.
One of the recipients, Mark Dannenbaum, received a Lifetime Achievement Award. He expressed pride in his long history with the JCC, having served as past president and chairing events like the Maccabee games. Dannenbaum’s idol, Larry Bowa, was the keynote speaker at the event. Bowa, along with Charlie Manuel and Ryan Howard, shared stories from their baseball careers.
The annual sports awards ceremony serves as a fundraiser for youth activities at the JCC, including sports leagues, nutrition counseling, wellness classes, and obesity prevention programs. Over the years, the event has raised over $2 million for these initiatives.
