During a live television interview on Apple TV, Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Kiké Hernández made an error while fielding a ground ball hit by Gleyber Torres of the New York Yankees. Hernández was speaking with Wayne Randazzo and former pitcher Dontrelle Willis when the error occurred in the second inning of the game.
The discussion during the interview was about Hernández’s colorful cleats and the close-knit nature of the Dodgers’ ballclub. As Torres hit a grounder to third base, Willis asked Hernández about the team’s camaraderie, leading to the fumble by Hernández and an error on the play.
After the play, Hernández jokingly asked about the previous question before his error, and Willis responded by playfully teasing him about making another mistake. Despite the error, the Dodgers were able to prevent Torres from scoring by getting the next two batters out.
Later in the game, Hernández himself reached base on an error by Torres but was picked off by the Yankees’ pitcher. The game continued with ups and downs for both teams, with the Dodgers ultimately winning the game.
As part of the baseball’s agreement, players can receive a stipend for wearing a two-way microphone during a game, with a higher amount offered during the postseason. Despite the error during the interview, Hernández’s performance on the field helped the Dodgers secure the win against the Yankees.
