Diego’s, a locally beloved taco restaurant and bar in Uptown Kingston, recently served its last drinks to its biggest fans, friends, and family before officially shutting down after ten years in business. Owner Isaac Cruz took to Instagram to announce the closure, citing the challenges posed by pandemic-era lockdowns and rising costs as the reasons behind the decision.
In his announcement, Cruz mentioned that the business was planning to transition to a food truck or trailer in order to keep the spirit of Diego’s alive. The pandemic had dealt a hard blow to the establishment, and despite their best efforts to recover, the increasing costs and overhead expenses ultimately forced them to make the difficult decision to close their doors.
Diego’s loyal customers were encouraged to follow the business on Instagram for updates on future events where they would be vending, including appearances at venues like Opus 40. Cruz also made a plea for support as they worked to sustain the business as a mobile food vending operation, emphasizing the importance of community backing to keep the Diego’s legacy going.
