Knife attacker at European Championship party in Wolmirstedt was not on drugs

The knife attack at a private European Championship party in Wolmirstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, in mid-June was committed by a 27-year-old perpetrator who was neither under the influence of drugs nor alcohol, according to a toxicological report. The attacker got into an argument with a 23-year-old fellow countryman and fatally injured him. He then proceeded to stab three other people at the party, seriously injuring a 75-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, and slightly injuring a 56-year-old man. When police officers arrived at the scene, the perpetrator attacked them with the knife and was shot by the officers, resulting in his death.

Almost 20 days after the attack, it has been confirmed that the perpetrator was not under the influence of any substances. A toxicological analysis did not detect any alcohol, drugs, or medication in his system. The motive behind the deadly dispute and the attacker’s targeting of innocent football fans remains unclear and is still under investigation. However, authorities have ruled out any religious background to the incident.

Police spokeswoman Jeannine Stage-Breuer stated, “The chemical toxicological examination for the autopsy of the 27-year-old Afghan is available. No evidence could be found that the 27-year-old was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication.”Authorities are still trying to understand why the situation escalated and resulted in such violence in Wolmirstedt, Saxony-Anhalt. They are also working to determine the motive behind the attacker’s actions at the private EM-Public-Viewing party.
