Korean Scientist Generously Donates to Support Vietnam’s Advancement in Semiconductors and AI

During a discussion with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, 15 Korean experts and scientists provided advice to help Vietnam develop its semiconductor and artificial intelligence sectors. The meeting took place on July 1, as part of the Prime Minister’s official visit to Korea. Dr. Chang Joon-Yeon, Vice President of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), shared insights on the importance of government support for semiconductor technology. He highlighted the investments made by the Korean government in the Semiconductor Research Center and emphasized the significance of training experts and scientists in this field.

Professor Lim Jung-Wook from the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) acknowledged Vietnam’s strong human resources and emphasized the need for investment in elite talent to propel the semiconductor industry forward. Cooperation between Vietnam and Korea in the field of AI was also discussed, with Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat highlighting potential areas for collaboration. The Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) was identified as a key platform for fostering research and development in the semiconductor industry.

Minister Dat underscored the importance of innovation and R&D in the semiconductor sector, outlining plans to train 50,000 semiconductor human resources by 2030. Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung highlighted the government’s strategies to attract investment in semiconductors and AI, including policies to support human resource development. Vietnamese telecommunications company Viettel expressed interest in collaborating with Korean enterprises in the semiconductor and AI fields.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the delegates for their insights and emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to developing high-value industries like semiconductors and AI. He outlined the government’s policies and projects in these sectors and expressed the intent to propose inter-governmental cooperation with Korea in these crucial areas. The Prime Minister’s visit to South Korea aimed to strengthen ties between the two countries and explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing technology and innovation.
