Kyler Murray is now in his sixth season with the Cardinals after being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft. Since his rookie season, only four of his teammates from that year remain on the team, none of them on the offensive side. Despite being one of the younger quarterbacks, turning 27 this summer, Murray now finds himself as one of the older players on the team. This shift in leadership dynamics was noted by Murray as he recently spoke to the media for the first time since the end of last season.
After spending last year rehabbing from a torn ACL that cut his 2022 season short, Murray is now entering his first real offseason with head coach Jonathan Gannon and offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. The Cardinals are optimistic that this offseason work will elevate Murray’s game to another level. Murray expressed confidence in his understanding of the system and knowing what the coaches expect from him, highlighting a sense of maturity and growth in his career.
Murray’s return to play last season saw him score 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 244 yards and three touchdowns. He admitted that there were instances of soreness in his surgically repaired knee and fluctuations in its flexion. Despite these challenges, Murray is fully committed to staying on top of his physical prep to ensure his knee remains healthy moving forward. Although the Cardinals are not favored to make the postseason this year, Murray’s goal remains clear – to pursue a Super Bowl victory. This drive and determination define his approach to the game as he looks forward to his sixth season with optimism and excitement.
