A pair of top state lawmakers, State Sen. Vin Gopal and State Sen. Paul Sarlo, along with a state education advocacy group, have called for a statewide investigation into the College Achieve Public Schools (CAPS) network. This comes after an investigation by NJ Advance Media revealed that top officials at College Achieve Asbury Park have been using a family business to produce apparel for the school, resulting in thousands of dollars in expenses.

State Sen. Vin Gopal, who serves on the Senate Education Committee, expressed his concern over the investigation findings, describing them as “very disturbing.” State Sen. Paul Sarlo echoed this sentiment, stating that the state Department of Education and any other applicable agency should conduct a thorough investigation into College Achieve to uncover the extent of the issue.

The New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association, the state’s primary advocacy group for publicly funded charter schools, also weighed in on the situation. They stated that if the allegations in the NJ Advance Media report are true, they are “indefensible.” This further emphasizes the need for a comprehensive investigation into College Achieve Public Schools to address any wrongdoings that may have occurred.
