Layoffs at Tesla’s Berlin plant: 300 workers affected

A spokeswoman for the company confirmed that 300 temporary workers were let go, emphasizing that regular Tesla employees were not affected. The Business Insider had previously reported that fixed-term contracts would not be renewed, but the spokeswoman stated that efforts were made to find new placements for those workers. In March, Tesla had hired hundreds of temporary workers for the Grünheide factory near Berlin.

On Monday, Tesla announced a global workforce reduction of more than 10 percent, impacting an unspecified number of employees. CEO Elon Musk explained that this decision was part of the company’s strategy to optimize costs and increase productivity. The German factory currently employs over 12,000 workers.
