In 2023, the business world experienced a significant impact from artificial intelligence (AI) as it boosted corporate earnings and stock prices. At the University of Miami’s Patti and Alan Herbert School of Business, the rise of AI was not surprising. The school had been offering cutting-edge STEM-accredited graduate programs in fields like business analytics, accounting, taxation, and finance. These programs, along with the STEM-accredited Master of Science in Sustainable Business and full-time MBA programs, provide students with the skills to leverage machine learning and data analysis for business success.

The demand for these programs has been growing rapidly, with the quality of students steadily improving. As a result, the school has expanded its classes but still struggles to keep up with demand. Professor Indranil Chakraborty, the Dean of the Department of Finance, notes that the industry partners also work closely with students to align their education with industry expectations.

Miami Herbert’s STEM-accredited Master of Science in Accounting and Master of Science in Taxation programs are overseen by Professor Daniel Medina, a former forensic accountant. These programs have produced graduates who have gone on to work for organizations such as the IRS, Chicago Cubs Baseball Team, FBI, SEC, and more. Medina emphasizes the importance of analytics in today’s business landscape and aims to train students to become business advisors with strong data interpretation skills.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics program at Miami Herbert, led by Professor Doug Lehmann, has been preparing students for AI-related work since 2016. The curriculum combines computer science, statistics, and business to ensure students have the necessary skills for the field. The program also invites industry professionals to teach workshops on emerging topics in AI.

The STEM-accredited Master of Science in Finance program offers courses in investment management, portfolio management, quantitative finance with AI and machine learning, market microstructure, and alternative investing. Professor Ti Hsu believes that Miami Herbert University’s business school stands out due to its faculty of world-class scholars, unique curriculum, and industry exposure opportunities.

Overall, Miami Herbert’s STEM-accredited graduate programs in business analytics, accounting, taxation, and finance provide students with the skills needed to succeed in the age of AI. The demand for these programs is growing rapidly, and graduates can expect good employment opportunities across various industries.
