Learn about history and science from Smithsonian museum curators – Estes Park Trail-Gazette

This spring, the Estes Valley Library is offering the opportunity to take a virtual visit to the Smithsonian Institution with two intimate presentations from curators at the National Museum of American History and the National Air and Space Museum. Mark your calendars for these upcoming events.

On April 2, join Paula Johnson, curator and project director of the American Food History Project, as she shares stories featured in Smithsonian American Table: The Foods, People, and Innovations That Feed Us. Discover how food has shaped American history and learn about the people, ingredients, events, and movements that have influenced our culinary traditions. Explore the connections between food and American culture and how cooking together can impact our collective future.

After the webinar with Paula Johnson, you can try cooking your way through featured recipes that reflect American history and culture. Then, on June 3, join Matt Shindell, curator at the National Air and Space Museum, as he delves into the history of Mars. From ancient astrologers to modern-day explorers, learn about the human fascination with the Red Planet and the ongoing efforts to uncover its secrets.

These Smithsonian programs are made possible by the Library Speakers Consortium (LSC), which provides access to acclaimed authors and experts through virtual visits. All events are free to attend, live-streamed, and include interactive Q&A sessions with the audience. If you’re unable to attend the live presentations, recordings are available for viewing at any time.

If you’re eager for more enriching experiences and ready to explore beyond our planet, visit libraryc.org/estesvalleylibrary to register for these programs and discover a wide range of other author talks available through the library.
