Liberty Hospital is acquired by the University of Kansas Health System

The University of Kansas Health System and Liberty Hospital have officially merged following KU Health’s acquisition of the Northland hospital. The merger was confirmed back in May during a meeting between leaders from both hospitals.

On Monday, July 1, leaders announced that the merger had been completed. Liberty Hospital’s CEO, Raghu Adiga, stated that the board of trustees and senior leaders evaluated over 30 potential partners, and it was evident that KU Health was the right choice for the hospital. Adiga expressed confidence that the partnership would strengthen Liberty Hospital, the Liberty community, and the entire Northland region.

President of the Health System’s Kansas City division, Tammy Peterman, described the merger as an exciting day for the organization. She noted that while they were not actively seeking growth opportunities, they recognized the significance of the Northland to the region’s continued development. Peterman pointed out that 35% of their patients come from Missouri, making Liberty Hospital KU Health’s first hospital in the state.

KU Health plans to invest over $300 million over the next 12 years and introduce new services to Liberty as part of the merger. The organization aims to provide care for more patients in Missouri and the Northland to ensure that healthcare remains easily accessible to the local community. This merger represents a significant step in KU Health’s expansion and commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region.
