The highly anticipated WWDC this year has captured the attention of analysts, investors, and more, all eager to see what CEO Tim Cook will unveil about Apple’s generative artificial intelligence efforts. Major updates to iOS are also expected to be announced at 1 p.m. ET. Analysts believe that an AI announcement from Apple is long overdue, with Wedbush Securities managing director Dan Ives stating that Apple needs to stay relevant in the AI space.

While neither company has confirmed the partnership, Bloomberg has reported that Apple and OpenAI are likely teaming up to bring an AI chatbot to iPhones, leveraging OpenAI’s new GPT-4o. Other expected changes from Apple include updates to the Mac, iPad, and Vision Pro operating systems, AI-generated emojis, and a complete Siri overhaul.

By incorporating AI into Siri, Apple aims to allow the virtual assistant to integrate with Apple apps for a wider range of functionality. Reports suggest that Apple will showcase AI integrations throughout iOS 18, focusing on simplifying everyday tasks on iPhones such as email responses and article summaries.

Despite no new hardware announcements expected this year (introducing the Vision Pro last year), all eyes are on Apple to lay the groundwork for an “AI iPhone” to be revealed later this year. Apple’s emphasis on AI integration and advancements in this year’s WWDC could shape the future of Apple products and services.
