The owner of a beauty supply store in Bridgeport is speaking out after her business was once again the subject of vandalism. Prima owner Whitney Cumbo has had to pick up the pieces outside of her business multiple times due to vandalism incidents. She explained that the previous incidents involved a guy on a bike who punched the window and another guy who threw a rock at the window, shattering it. Cumbo expressed that these incidents are ongoing and need to be addressed.

Cumbo and her sister started their small business five years ago in Bridgeport, choosing the location because it felt close to home and where they grew up. However, she now feels like she is being pushed out due to her race. As an African American woman, Cumbo shared her struggles with trying to succeed while feeling like she keeps getting set back for no reason.

The most recent vandalism occurred on June 18, with the store’s front window still waiting to be fixed as the Chicago police continue to search for the responsible person. Despite the setbacks, Cumbo feels defeated but remains hopeful that justice will be served. Employee Donte Miles expressed disappointment over the vandalism and emphasized that their business operates with good intentions and creates a positive atmosphere for the community. Police have not yet taken anyone into custody as the investigation continues.
