Noodles 102, a local business in Providence, will be closing its doors on Saturday, June 8 after 17 years of operation. Laura Kuscu, an employee at Noodles 102, cited economic conditions and recent issues with the Washington Bridge in Providence as the reasons for the closure. Co-owner Mustafa Kuscu, who immigrated to the U.S. from Turkey, opened the noodle shop in pursuit of the American dream and played a significant role in shaping Ives Street.
Despite enduring various challenges over the years, including rising food costs, payroll expenses, and the impact of economic factors on everyday Americans, the recent hardships proved to be too much for Noodles 102. In addition to economic struggles, the closure was exacerbated by the shutdown of the westbound side of the Washington Bridge, limiting access to the Fox Point area where the restaurant is located.
Laura Kuscu expressed disappointment in the lack of government support for struggling businesses like Noodles 102, emphasizing that offering low-interest loans is not enough to truly help businesses in need. As customers bid farewell to the restaurant during its final week of operation, the owners likened the experience to a funeral, reflecting on the loyal customers who visited for one last bowl of noodles.
