Local businesses in Swanton affected by Airport Highway closure

The final phase of Swanton’s sewer separation project has closed a major intersection on Airport Highway at S. Main Street in Toledo, Ohio. This closure has sparked concerns among area business owners who fear that the limited traffic flow will negatively impact their storefronts. Cat Kania, the owner of CK Sweets, expresses her worry that potential customers may have difficulty finding their way to the businesses located on Main Street.

One convenience store owner, Kamran Durrani of Stop by Mart, relies heavily on the traffic that normally passes by his store. He notes that during the summer, many people stop by for cold drinks and snacks while on the go. With the intersection closed for 30 days for the completion of the project, Durrani anticipates a decrease in foot traffic which could affect his ability to cover his bills and overhead costs.

Despite the challenges posed by the road closure, Durrani emphasizes that supporting local businesses during this time is crucial. The Swanton Chamber of Commerce has been encouraging people on social media to patronize the area’s businesses to help them weather the temporary setback. The detour routes have been outlined for westbound, eastbound, and northbound traffic to provide alternative ways for commuters to navigate the area.
