Rapid City is gearing up for an exciting month of sports events, thanks to the efforts of the Rapid City Sports Commission. This month, the city will host 10 different youth sports tournaments, expected to bring in roughly $9 million for the local economy. With around 8,000 athletes, along with their families and friends, expected to participate, the sporting events will include baseball, softball, and soccer tournaments such as the BHR Scheels Rushmore Cup, Jim Scull Tournament, and the Rushmore Shootout Baseball Tournament.

Domico Rodriguez, Executive Director of the Sports Commission, believes that hosting these tournaments is perfect timing, coinciding with the tourism season in Rapid City. This provides an opportunity to showcase the city’s sports facilities to athletes who can compete closer to home. Rodriguez sees this as a win-win situation for the community, athletes, and local organizations involved in hosting the tournaments.

These events also offer the chance for Rapid City to highlight new or improved sporting facilities, such as the recently completed Sioux Park. With the city bustling with people during this time, hosting these tournaments not only boosts the local economy but also helps promote sports tourism in Rapid City.

As these sporting events unfold, the city looks forward to welcoming athletes, families, and sports enthusiasts to enjoy the competitive spirit and athleticism on display.
