Last week, over 300 business executives attended the 14th Annual General Counsel Awards, which marked the final Business Journal event of the year. The event was hosted by Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, who entertained the attendees with jokes and introduced sponsored speakers. Despite testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day, Chemerinsky hosted the evening virtually.
Chemerinsky has a long and distinguished career in the legal field, having served as the founding dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Law for nearly a decade before taking on the role of dean at UC Berkeley in 2017. He is a well-known professor and author with a focus on First Amendment law.
This year’s event was held at the Irvine Marriott and featured five winners from a diverse range of industries, including healthcare and hot tubs. The winners were selected from a pool of over 50 individuals and companies who were nominated for the awards.
The five honorees of this year’s event include Paul Dechary of Monster Beverage Corp., Jason Weintraub of Jacuzzi Inc., Ryan Lindsey of Edwards Lifesciences Corp., Christina Whittaker of Alteryx Inc., and Hyundai Motor America. Each winner was recognized in a different category, such as public company, private company, specialty counsel, rising star, and in-house legal team.
For more information on this year’s event and detailed write-ups on each of the winners, readers can look forward to next week’s print edition of the Business Journal.
