Reggie Winston has a unique approach to working with his clients and is now expanding his focus on their health. Zinfindale Smith, a regular at the Bar Ber Shop, stressed the importance of going to the doctor and asking questions after years of learning fundamental messages at the shop. To further promote health awareness, the shop hosted a Men’s Health and Wellness fair, offering services such as blood pressure screenings, STD screenings, and mental health check-ins.

Through his non-profit organization, Grooming Resources and Opportunities, Winston and his community partners are addressing health disparities in Black and brown communities by using the barbershop as a platform for intervention. The barbershop setting provides a safe and open space for men to have real conversations about their health and feelings, challenging gender stereotypes.

Clinical Mental Health Counselor Dr. Rodney Harris emphasized the importance of providing services like blood pressure screenings to tap into the mental health component, contributing to holistic well-being. Parents like Benetta Thai appreciate the positive impact of getting a fresh haircut on their sons’ self-esteem and overall well-being.

The Bar Ber Shop and its community partners are dedicated to promoting health and wellness in their community, organizing various events to provide resources and support. For information on their upcoming events, visit their website.
