Many people gathered in downtown Grand Rapids for Easterseals MORC’s annual fundraiser, where they went “over the edge” to support a good cause. Despite the height, participants like Hilary Scholten felt excited rather than scared as they leaned over the cliff. Congressman spoke to FOX 17 about his own experience with the event, which took place on the Grand Rapids skyline.

The fundraiser was a huge success, raising well over $117,000, with a significant donation of $40,000 from Amway. Easterseals Vice President, Lindsay Calcaterra, expressed gratitude for the funds raised, stating that they would support their behavioral health services, ensuring their presence in West Michigan. Easterseals MORC has been providing medical services for over a century, catering to various needs such as illnesses, mental health issues, autism, and the need for additional support.

The organization’s programs benefit around 21,000 Michigan residents, including children and adults, helping them with autism, behavioral health, and young children’s mental health. Calcaterra emphasized that the goal is to assist individuals in reaching their full potential and enabling them to live as independently as possible in their communities.

The “Over the Edge” fundraiser is considered the highlight of the event, representing Easterseals’ mission to explore new methods of support for their cause. Calcaterra highlighted that the organization’s work goes beyond just the event and encompasses a wide range of services provided throughout the year.

For those struggling with mental health, help is available. The Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 provides confidential support 24/7. Stay updated with FOX 17 through their social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.
