Defense Minister Yoav Galant, acting on the recommendation of the ministry’s director general, Eyal Zamir, has approved a set of measures to enhance the conditions of service for local self-defense unit commanders. Due to the Finance Ministry blocking their employment as civilian IDF workers, the Defense Ministry will provide increased payments to municipalities. The additional funds will be allocated towards improving the salaries of local self-defense unit commanders and creating positions for their deputies.

Moreover, the minister sanctioned a program for training and retraining commanders, as well as a project for the acquisition of equipment, ammunition, and weapons for these self-defense units. These measures aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of local self-defense units in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities. By investing in better compensation, training, and resources, the Defense Ministry seeks to strengthen the capabilities of these units to maintain security and protect communities.

The approval of these initiatives reflects the government’s commitment to supporting local self-defense units and recognizing the essential role they play in safeguarding areas across the country. The decision to increase funding for these units underscores the value placed on their contributions to national security and the well-being of citizens. Moving forward, the Defense Ministry will continue to work towards further enhancing the capacities and capabilities of local self-defense units to address evolving security challenges and maintain a safe and secure environment for all.
