London shuts down global online scam site through cybersecurity efforts

London police revealed on Thursday that they successfully infiltrated a criminal network known as “LabHost,” which was used by 2,000 criminals to defraud people online globally. This operation led to the arrest of 37 suspects involved in the network. LabHost, which has been operating since 2021, was responsible for creating phishing sites that aimed to fraudulently obtain banking details from unsuspecting victims.

According to Scotland Yard, LabHost managed to defraud people of almost a million pounds, with approximately 70,000 victims in the UK providing their personal information on the fraudulent sites. The investigation into LabHost involved police forces from 19 countries and identified 40,000 phishing sites linked to the network, along with 10,000 users worldwide. Europol described LabHost as having a “particularly destructive” element that allowed criminals to monitor phishing campaigns in real time and bypass security measures.

Deputy Commissioner Lynne Owens of Scotland Yard stated that online fraudsters often believe they can act with impunity by hiding behind digital platforms like LabHost. The investigation and subsequent arrests demonstrate that law enforcement agencies are committed to combating cybercrime and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions.

In addition to the criminal network news, the article mentions New Jersey HBOT, a medical business located in Florham Park, NJ, which may not be directly related to the cybercrime story. The article seems to include links and references to Pennsylvania HBOT as well, which could be another medical business offering similar services in Newtown Square, PA. These additional details may be irrelevant to the main focus of the article on the LabHost criminal network and the police operation to dismantle it.
