Long Island business owners anticipate an increase in customers during the Cricket World Cup

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is proving to be lucrative for some Long Island business owners, while others are taking a more cautious approach. Jim Roggio of Burger City on Hempstead Turnpike shared his thoughts on the situation saying that at this point, they were not feeling overwhelmed. Naveed Haroon, the owner of La Carraia Gelateria and Spice & Curry Kabab & Grill, noticed an increase in customers right after the match. However, Roggio mentioned that despite two customers mentioning they had been at the match, they did not see as much of an overflow of people as expected. He speculated that road closures around the park may have played a role in affecting the influx of customers at Burger City.

Roggio observed how the streets were being shut down and explained how the displacement of cars may have impacted the flow of traffic towards their restaurant. Both business owners expressed hope for an increase in foot traffic in the following days. Charles Razenson, president of the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, shared that chamber members were optimistic about seeing a boost in business due to the international event on Long Island. He highlighted how local businesses are hopeful that the event will lead to increased revenue for the community.
