French giants Lyon have recently made a £10m bid for Everton’s 26-year-old defender Ben Godfrey. This comes as Serie A side Atalanta also show interest in the English defender. The player himself has indicated a willingness to move, with his preference being a move to Italy.
Atalanta initially offered £8.46m for Godfrey, which fell short of Everton’s valuation. Lyon’s entry into the picture now changes things, as they have also offered £10m for the defender. However, this offer is still below Everton’s valuation of £15m.
It remains to be seen if Lyon will come back with a higher offer for Godfrey, who has one year left on his contract at Goodison Park. Despite limited chances last season, he has played 93 matches for Everton over the past three years.
Selling Godfrey would be a boost for Everton before the 30th June deadline. It seems that a decision on the defender’s future will be made in the coming days.
