Macron Urges “Olympic Truce” for Paris 2024

100 days after the opening of Paris 2024 and on the eve of the lighting of the Olympic flame in Athens, President Emmanuel Macron kicked off the countdown to the highly anticipated international sporting event, where France is the organizing country. In a televised speech on Bfmtv and Rmc radio, Macron called for an “Olympic truce” emphasizing respect, tolerance, and safety for all athletes. With the threat of jihadist terrorism looming over the event, as well as possible strikes by trade unions in France, Macron assured that the government has contingency plans in place.
