At the Milwaukee High School Sports Awards show, Brookfield East’s Maggie Wanezek and Wisconsin Lutheran’s Kon Knueppel II were honored as the athletes of the year. The event, presented by Festival Foods, recognized athletes, coaches, and teams from the entire Milwaukee area. Wanezek, a standout performer in swimming and diving, has achieved a remarkable feat with 10 individual event state titles. Her exceptional performances have set records and solidified her as a top competitor in state tournament history. Wanezek’s skill and dedication have also contributed to her team’s success, with multiple top-ranked relay teams under her belt. Currently committed to the University of Wisconsin, she is competing at the U.S. Olympic trials.
