The Math Team at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics includes Emmanuel Nsadha, and front seated are Charley Reischer, Gabe Austin, Lochlan O’Connor, and Ari Anghel. Standing behind them are Dr. Henry Kavle, Quinn Smith, Graham Reichert, Thomas Nonken, Rye Hughes, Asher Labbe, Quinn Daly, Elizabeth Rethman, and Vanda Madore. MSSM took first place at the 45th annual Maine State Math Meet on April 2 at the Augusta Civic Center, where top math students from around Maine showcased their skills in challenging math concepts.
The team had high expectations after securing the highest total score in the state during the five regular math meets. The Math Team comprises 10 students from different parts of Maine, with individual awards given to Charley Reischer for the Skip Gates Bowl, Gabriel Austin, Rye Hughes, and Lochlan O’Connor for their impressive performances in the competition.
Maine School of Science and Mathematics is the state’s only magnet high school and one of the few public boarding schools in the country, providing a unique educational experience for students. Looking ahead, the school continues to participate in various academic competitions and events to showcase the talents of its students and educators.
