Man believed to be under the influence arrested after crashing car into Windsor store

A Windsor man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing a vehicle into a business in the 300 block of Windsor Road just south of the Town Green. According to Sgt. Jeff Toney, Windsor police responded to a report of the incident just after 9:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, police found a black SUV that had run into a column in front of a two-story business triplex. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the vehicle was empty when authorities arrived on the scene. However, they did find a man sitting on a bench near the crash who identified himself as the driver.

It was discovered that the man’s blood alcohol content was 0.347%, which is more than four times the legal limit. As a result, he was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County jail in Santa Rosa on suspicion of DUI and DUI with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.08%. Additionally, he was on probation for a previous misdemeanor DUI conviction and is suspected of violating probation and driving a vehicle without an ignition interlock device, all of which are misdemeanor charges.

As of Wednesday morning, the man remained in custody on a $70,000 bail. For more information, you can contact Staff Writer Madison Smalstig at madison.smalstig@pressdemocrat.com or on Twitter @madi.smals.
