Manufacturer of automotive technology plans $3 million expansion

The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development has announced that auto technology manufacturer OPmobility’s plant in Spring Hill will undergo a $3 million expansion. OPmobility, formerly known as Plastic Omnium, plans to expand its exteriors group to offer more products for electric vehicle production. This expansion will result in the addition of 186 new jobs to the plant, which currently only has 18 employees, according to a TNECD release.

The company has had a presence in Tennessee since 2015, with locations in Chattanooga, Smyrna, Hendersonville, and Spring Hill. Headquartered in France, OPmobility employs over 560 people across the state. TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter highlighted the importance of foreign investment in Tennessee’s booming automotive industry, stating that companies like OPmobility help strengthen the state’s reputation as being business-friendly to international companies.

The details of any potential incentives TNECD may be contributing to OPmobility’s expansion were not included in the release. OPmobility’s U.S. operations director, Xavier Maury, expressed enthusiasm for the challenges presented by the automotive industry’s mobility transformation. He stated that the company is proud to continue its commitment to industrial excellence in Tennessee, working with top OEMs in vehicle electrification.

Founded in 1946, OPmobility supplies automotive and mobility manufacturers with exterior systems and battery and hydrogen electrification technology. The company’s expansion in Spring Hill signifies its dedication to innovation and growth within the automotive sector.
