Enzo Maresca was unanimously chosen by Chelsea’s decision-makers, sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, after working long hours leading up to the appointment. Maresca, who previously worked under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and managed Parma, was selected over Mauricio Pochettino and three other candidates. The 44-year-old Italian aligns well with Chelsea’s highly data-driven model and is comfortable working within the club’s structure.
Maresca has already requested player profiles from the data department and is eager to start improving players and preparing for matches. He is set to officially start on 1 July and is keen to work with the squad, potentially adding a striker and defender to the team. Academy players like Tyrique George and Josh Acheampong are expected to join Maresca for pre-season.
Chelsea is looking forward to seeing Maresca’s tactical approach and believes his association with Guardiola will bring a positive impact to the team. The club is excited for the new coaching staff and the upcoming season as they aim to build on their success.
