Marielle Thompson of Canada achieved her third consecutive World Cup women’s ski cross gold medal on Sunday, capping off a successful weekend in Georgia. Hailing from Whistler, B.C., Thompson has now won four out of five races and currently leads the standings for the season. As the reigning Olympic silver medallist, this victory marks her 29th career win and 65th podium in her 132nd World Cup start.

Thompson attributed her success to learning from past experiences and focusing on skiing cleanly throughout the competition. She emphasized the importance of a strong start and emphasized the need to be quick and powerful out of the gate.

France’s Marielle Berger Sabbatel and Switzerland’s Talina Gantenbein both joined Thompson on the podium, taking home the silver and bronze medals, respectively. India Sherret of Cranbrook, B.C., finished in fourth place in the final race.

The Canadian Press reported on Thompson’s success in the World Cup event.
