From 14 to 16 June 2024, the city of Madrid hosted the Pokémon GO Fest, drawing a crowd of 190,000 attendees, with 70% coming from outside of Spain. This event not only included games but also provided a platform for cultural exchange and unique experiences, fostering social and playful interactions among fans of all ages.
The Juan Carlos I Park in Madrid was a key location for the event, where players managed to capture 6.6 million Pokémon and traveled an average distance of 16.4 km each. One of the most popular attractions was the Football Experience, which allowed fans to meet football legends like Mendieta and Morientes, blending sports and digital gaming in a vibrant setting.
As part of the event, official Pokémon GO routes were created in collaboration with the City of Madrid, guiding participants through themed itineraries in both the historic and modern areas of the city. This offered a fresh perspective on the Spanish capital and showcased the game’s potential as a tool for urban exploration.
Philip Marz, Regional Marketing Director for Pokémon GO, highlighted the success of the event, with tens of thousands of players from around the world coming to Madrid to enjoy the Pokémon GO Fest. Trainers made new friends, caught exclusive Pokémon, and even witnessed five marriage proposals over the weekend. The event truly brought together fans in a fun and festive atmosphere, celebrating the spirit of the game and the camaraderie it fosters among its players.
