James Madison redshirt juniors Davide Materazzi and Demitri Turner were named to the College Sports Communicators Division I Men’s Soccer Academic All-District Team. Those earning all-district honors required a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 without rounding up and must’ve either started in 66% or competed in 90% of all matches.

Currently in his first semester in the sport and recreation leadership graduate program at JMU, Materazzi earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management with a cumulative GPA of 3.579 while at Davis & Elkins. This season for the Dukes, Materazzi has started all 19 matches this season along the backline. He’s helped on both sides of the ball, scoring two goals this season with his goal against No. 3 Georgetown on Sunday propelling the Dukes to the round of 16 for the first time since 2018. On defense, he’s anchored a backline that has recorded five shutouts.

Turner, a quantitative finance major with a 3.762 GPA, has also started all 19 matches this season as he appears in the midfield. He netted his first career goal against Coastal Carolina and followed it with another score versus South Carolina. He adds three assists for a total of seven points this season, one of eight Dukes to have recorded at least seven points this season.

JMU will travel to Los Angeles and take on No. 25 Loyola Marymount in the round of 16 on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with the winner taking on the winner of fifth-seeded West Virginia and Vermont in the quarterfinals.
