After a minor league rehab assignment that was interrupted by right thumb soreness and a nerve issue extending to his forearm and triceps, Scherzer made his return to the mound in June. Bochy stated that there would be no strict pitch count for Scherzer’s return, as they would monitor his performance and how he felt inning by inning.
Scherzer was traded to the Rangers from the New York Mets last season and had a strong performance with the team. He adds depth to a Rangers rotation that has been plagued by injuries this season, with multiple starters spending time on the injured list. The team is hopeful that Scherzer’s return will bolster their pitching staff as they aim to compete in the season and beyond.
